A SUMMARY, CHAPTER EXCERPTS and LITERARY REVIEWS
With a mutual love of dancing where else would two middle aged singles meet but at a Singles Dance in San Diego.
Dancing their way through a four-year courtship they were married in the spring of 1987. Two wonderful productive, learning years would fly by before Arne, the author's husband, discovers a lump under his chin, near his carotid artery.
Dance Interrupted, will introduce you to blue-eyed, energenic Arne Blomquist, who launches the author into a personal journey of insight and new thought, with practical lessons in positive thinking - and through his ordeal with cancer, becomes the catalyst for her introduction and investigation of: Medical Intuitives, acupressure, acupuncture, Body work, Homeopathy, herbs, visualization, diet, supplements, Healing Touch, and - eventually leads her to the lesson of total Trust and Surrender to a Higher Power, - and then demonstrates to her that there IS, Life after Death.
. . . . . "Oncology offices were no mystery to me. I had friends, relatives and co-workers whose lives had been touched by this dreaded disease and who had done the drill. Rarely had I seen a happy ending when the malignancy was advanced and involved the head and neck. . . . But what I did see was a quality of life altered beyond recognition.
. . . . . “Arne, this is what we need to do for you. First, due to your cardiac condition, you’ll need to be hospitalized for a week for careful monitoring of the chemotherapy. You’ll need what is called 5FU and to that we’ll add Cees platinum. This is a very potent chemical and will have to be flushed out of your bloodstream with a saline solution. Then you’ll need to be radiated five days a week, on all four sides of your throat, from five to seven weeks. Following that, we will hospitalize you again and repeat the chemotherapy.”
The doctor continued, “I want you to understand the radiation, Arne. Recall the very worst sunburn you have ever had and place it inside your throat. That’s what it’s going to feel like. You won’t be able to eat and you will lose about eighty pounds. Your taste buds will be permanently altered and food won’t taste the same. The salivary glands in your mouth will be damaged. You’ll have to keep mints in your mouth to stimulate moisture and swallow water as you eat. In short, you’re going to hate my guts.” . . . . You need to get started on this within two weeks at the latest. We need to be aggressive about this.” A wave of nausea washed over me as I listened to the doctor’s words. I watched Arne’s face. . . . . "God, please," I prayed. "This can’t be happening." But it Was happening and the doctor’s voice echoed in my ears. . . .
“Doctor, I have one more question. If Arne goes through with all this treatment, will he be cured?”
The doctor was silent for a moment. . . . “No,” he replied, shaking his head, “but it’ll give him a forty to seventy percent chance for a remission. . . .”
I knew the doctor hadn’t minced any words, pulled any punches, and I blessed him for it. But he hadn’t told Arne everything. I knew that without moisture in his mouth, he wouldn’t be able to hold his dentures in place. It was almost guaranteed, that he would be nauseated and end up on the sofa with his head in a bucket. And the pain. Then there was the distinct possibility of scar tissue forming from the radiation burns and closing his throat. And I knew remission could last as short a time as two months. Concrete hit my stomach as I saw pictures forming in my mind. . . .
The following day I placed a call to a friend to tell her what had happened.
“I don’t know where to turn,” I said. “I’m so afraid Arne will go for the chemo and radiation. Mary, I just know the chemo will kill him – all that saline solution, to a cardiac patient? And even if it doesn’t, the radiation will rob him of his dignity, all quality to his life. He’ll forever be an invalid in misery, to weak to do anything. He couldn’t stand a life like that – not Arne.”
There was a pause at the other end of the line. “Do you think he would be open to an alternative type of healing?” she asked. . . .
As soon as I hung up I found a piece of typing paper and hastily penciled off a plea for help. . from any source. I had copies made and mailed them to just about everyone in my address book. It wasn’t long before we started to get some interesting replies. Phone calls, postcards, letters arrived. There were treatment centers in Germany, Mexico, the Bahamas. A relative to a friend sent the name of the World Research Center in a place called Sedona, Arizona. They have computer listings of every known disease, the latest treatments that are being offered, and where. A friend called with the name of a Mary Lou Keller, a very Spiritual lady and Real Estate Broker in, again, ‘Sedona.’ She could put us in touch with various people in the healing arts.
Arne and I were both astounded, not only by the response we received but also to the many references to, and in, Sedona. I was anxious to learn more about, “Alternative Treatments,” and “Holistic Healing.” We discussed the pros and cons of each therapy suggestion as we learned about them. But in the end Arne decided that God, our Higher Power, was sending us to Sedona for a reason, and we should find out what that reason was."
Walk with them as they pursue a natural cure for Arne's cancer. Dance with them as they experience an unusual town and some of its people. Share their mirth, frustration, joy, heartache - AND their shock , punishment and disbelief as the worlds of holistic/alternative therapies and conventional medicine collide.
Read detailed descriptions of Arne's treatments: Diet, Supplements, Herbs, Homeopathy, Acupressure, Acupuncture, Dowsing, Naturopathy, Meditation, Body work, Crystal therapy, Kinesiology, Past Life Regression, Energy healing.
Celebrate with them the excitement of learning Arne has received a cure of cancer number one and then the sorrow of knowing he has run out of time for fighting cancer number two.
Be uplifted as Arne returns from the other side to demonstrate that there IS, Life after Death and gives the author some important messages.
Find a comprehensive list of contacts at the back of the book. And in the Prologue, read about rage and other negative emotional energy and how it effects the body - and what you can do about it.

A Five Beacon Review For Dance Interrupted
The tale of the life and death of a cancer patient,
Arne, who opts not to follow the treatment regimen
offered by his doctors. It is the story of his choice
to die as he had lived, independently and of his own
making, following the path of holistic medicine.
This story grabbed my attention from the first sentence
and held it through to the very end. I think it is a
story that we should all read in order to prepare
ourselves for the choices we will all need to make
eventually.
The story is well- written, warm, engaging and
enlightening. I feel that anyone will be able to take
something affirming from it's words. It is a simple
story, with no pretense or "preaching," and allows the
reader to make his/her own choice.
I greatly appreciated the warmth, love and devotion
with which it was written and am eternally grateful
that the author (Arne's wife) was willing to tell his
tale. And I thank Arne himself for opening my eyes and
heart to possibilities I never knew existed. A great
read -- the result of a life greatly lived!
